Eleven’s Waffles

This game was based on the system of consumption by way of eating. Often, the concept of food and eating are seen as positive experiences of life, as food helps sustain us and  gives us energy to go about our daily lives. I reproduce a semblance of this by creating a catching game inspired by the show, ‘Stranger Things’. In the show, Eleven only primarily is seen eating waffles for the first season, as she has taken a liking to them. In my game, I referenced this by having a sprite of Eleven shift back and forth across the screen to catch the falling waffles, thus consuming them to increase the score. If the player fails to catch the waffles, the  sprite of Eleven shifts into a sad one, indicating to the player that they failed to catch a waffle. I wanted to play with the part of eating wherein the person has to actively seek out food that gets consumed. From hunter gatherers, to walking to the bodega, to calling DoorDash, in any iteration of life, humans have to work to get food. In this game, Eleven is scrambling across the screen to get her food to make her stay happy. In the future, if I were to fix this game, I would attempt to create a way for the score to actually decrease when Eleven misses a waffle, to increase the stakes a bit. Another further development that I would implement is to have a sound effect more personalized when Eleven gets a waffle or even loses one. It would also be cool to throw in undesirable objects that hurt the score if they are caught, like maybe a demogorgon or some sort of monster referenced from the show. There are a plethora of things that I could do to further develop this project.
